You will need dished pistons in order to remain pump gas friendly buy pistons that have a "D" shaped dish (or a step dish) so that the engine's quench effectiveness is not lost. This way, you'll get a 31 cubic inch increase (actually 37 cubes more with a 0.030" overbore). Therefore, get yourself a 460 crankshaft (casting number 2YAB or 2YABC) and 460 pistons when you do your rebuild. They both even use the same connecting rods. Just need to find a good performance rebuild kit. I currently am looking to spend in the 7 to 8 thousand range on the engine. I plan to spend some money on it but my money isn't unlimited. I want to get max power while staying under the hood. I want the car to look a bit muscle without going away from the sleeper look. I want to build close to stock but still custom. I'm wondering if anyone can help me with a link to somewhere to order the good stuff to boost my horses without popping it through the hood without doing high rise and blower. However, I want to be at least a little bit involved and all either of us are finding for rebuild kits are just plain average kits. I have a great certified mechanic lined up to do the work. Two, I want to know that I have reliability under the hood. ![]() It currently is capable of running, but for one, has sat for a few years. I'm rebuilding a 1970 Tbird, 2-door, sport roof, 429 thunderjet. I'm not really as desperate as the title sounds.
